Komunumo Website

The landing page for Komunumo, an open platform for communities and events. The single-page website introduces the project, its planned development, the people behind it, and the Komunumo association based in Lucerne, Switzerland.

The website uses plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. All images are served locally. No external libraries, package installation, or build step are required.

Run locally

Use a JDK that includes jwebserver (JDK 18 or later). From the repository root, run:

jwebserver -p 8000 -d public

Open http://localhost:8000/ in your browser. Refresh the page after editing files. Stop the server with Ctrl+C.

Features

  • Responsive layout with project introduction, roadmap, team, association, and legal notice.
  • Light and dark themes that initially follow the system preference. A manual selection is stored in the browser's local storage when available.
  • Semantic page regions and headings, a skip-to-content link, visible keyboard focus, and screen reader descriptions for links that open new tabs.
  • Relative font sizes, generous interactive targets, and layouts adapted for narrow screens.
  • Support for reduced-motion preferences and forced-colour modes.
  • External website links open in new tabs; email links use mailto:.

The content and navigation remain available without JavaScript. Theme switching requires JavaScript; system-based colour preferences also work through CSS.

Editing

Update text, links, metadata, and image descriptions in public/index.html. The roadmap presents planned capabilities without dates; keep planned features clearly distinguished from available functionality.

Adjust layout, colours, typography, and portrait crops in public/styles.css. Theme behaviour is implemented in public/script.js.

Before publishing, check both colour themes, keyboard navigation, narrow screens, browser zoom, and increased text sizes. Manual screen reader testing is still needed; the accessibility improvements do not constitute a conformance certification.

Deployment

The Forgejo workflow in .forgejo/workflows/publish.yml deploys public/ to iJUG Pages on pushes to main or manual runs. It uses the repository's PAGES_SITE variable and Forgejo token.

The site can also be served by any static web host. Publish the contents of public/ as the document root; no server-side application is needed.
